Technip: Petrochemical units project award in Saudi Arabia

Posted: 7 December 2004

Technip recently has been awarded by Al-Jubail Petrochemical Co. (KEMYA), a 50:50 joint venture between SABIC & ExxonMobil Chemical, a contract for an additional cracking furnace in its ethylene plant located in Al-Jubail, Saudi Arabia.

This new furnace will allow KEMYA to increase its ethylene and propylene production by 110,000 tons per year. The project will be carried out by Technip’s engineering center based in The Hague ( Netherlands) on a lump sum turn key basis. The start-up of the furnace is scheduled by the first quarter of 2006.

Based on Technip’s proprietary SMK gas cracking technology, this new furnace will crack both ethane and propane feedstock. Technip’s SMK technology has become the preferred choice of various ethylene producers for cracking gas feedstock with over 60 SMK furnaces contract awards over the last 7 years.

The SMK gas cracking technology is one of the major cornerstones of the Technip's ethylene know-how, which also include the SPYRO yield prediction package, the GK6 furnace technology for liquid cracking and the Progressive Separation process for the ethylene separation section.

A major player in the field of ethylene, Technip is also one of the only world-class groups capable of assuming complete responsibility, from conceptual design to turnkey design and construction, of complete ethylene plants based on its proprietary technology.

With a workforce of about 19,000 persons, Technip ranks among the top five corporations in the field of oil, gas and petrochemical engineering, construction and services. Headquartered in Paris, the Group is listed in New York and Paris. The Group’s main engineering and business centers are located in France, Italy, Germany, the UK, Norway, Finland, the Netherlands, the United States, Brazil, Abu-Dhabi, China, India, Malaysia and Australia. The Group has high-quality industrial and construction facilities in France, Brazil, the UK, the USA, Finland and Angola as well as a world-class fleet of offshore construction vessels.
